Climate Change

Climate change or Global warming is now agreed by mainstream science. It is important to make up your own mind as to how you want to respond to human impacts on our planet and the local environment in which we live. Below is a selection of links which are great sources of information. Please let us know of others which we could consider adding.

BBC Future Quote: “In a complex, fast-paced world of soundbites, knee-jerk opinions and information overload, BBC Future provides something different: a home for slowing down, delving deep and shifting perspectives”. A very interesting website. Particularly the sections covering the Environment and Climate Change.

Climate Change Committee Quote: “The Climate Change Committee (CCC) is an independent, statutory body established under the Climate Change Act 2008. Our purpose is to advise the UK and devolved governments on emissions targets and to report to Parliament on progress made in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and preparing for and adapting to the impacts of climate change”.

Green Alliance An organisation focusing on the creative thinking leading to practicable solutions. Quote: “Green Alliance is an independent think tank and charity focused on ambitious leadership for the environment”.

IOP Science Institute of Physics. Quote: “The climate mitigation gap: education and government recommendations miss the most effective individual actions”.

London School of Economics Quote: “The Grantham Research Institute on Climate Change and the Environment was established by the London School of Economics and Political Science in 2008 to create a world-leading centre for policy-relevant research and training on climate change and the environment, bringing together international expertise on economics, finance, geography, the environment, international development and political economy”.

Surrey Climate Change Commission Quote: “Our aim is to provide an independent and authoritative voice to all organisations in Surrey, whether they be private, or public sector or other, helping them contribute to the County reaching its necessary climate target, to avoid the damaging effects of runaway climate change”.

Surrey County Council’s Climate Change Strategy Plans on delivery of these ambitions. It provides a joint framework for collaborative action on climate change across Surrey’s local authorities and other partners (Dorking Climate Emergency Working Group response).
